Through the Welcome Corps program that was launched January 19th, 2023, everyday Americans will be able to privately sponsor refugees from around the world for resettlement in the United States. The application for sponsoring someone you know will launch later this year. Refugee eligibility requirements will be announced prior to the launch of the application portal.
Groups of five individuals, 18 or over, will apply as a group to form a group. As a group you will go through an application process, background check and complete trainings. Once your application is complete you will be matched with a refugee family who will then be processed for immigration to the United States.

During Phase I of the private sponsorship program you will not be able to choose. Priority will be given to refugees from Sub Saharan Africa. During Phase II of the program (to be announced later this year) you will be able to request a specific refugee family.
When they arrive they will have refugee status. After one year they will be eligible for a green card.
It is suggested that you do the following activities in preparation:
-Form a Private Sponsor Group
-Take the Welcome Corps Training
-Attend or watch an application support session webinar
-Plan housing and etc.
